Ryan’s Post Concussion Story
Meet Ryan, a Keep Your Head Up community member and avid Mindful Moments Participant!
This is his story:
“My car accident occurred in 2023. I sustained injuries from the accident to my neck, shoulder, back, and head. I sustained a concussion which affected my daily living. I have learned that anything can happen in a second. One minute you're fine and then your life changes. In my experience, I had challenges with thought processing, multitasking, and thinking about what I wanted to say. Each day was different, meaning, I had bad days and good days. There are days I had headaches that were really bad and I just wanted to stay in bed. I didn't want to do anything. I was changed emotionally. physically, and cognitively.
I have tried to keep a positive mindset and stay open and willing to get better. I have personally faced a lot of challenges along the way but I did get through it. I got the support I needed which really helped my recovery. I love doing art in my spare time which keeps my mind occupied. Hearing stories from people with brain injuries motivates me. Sharing tips with one another benefits all of us during recovery.
I personally think that Keep Your Head Up has helped me by connecting with people with brain injuries. I also like that. As a group, we can do a lot of different activities which benefit emotional, physical and cognitive challenges such as meditation, chair yoga, scrap booking, drawing, and music. Keep Your Head Up has literally helped me to keep my head up.”
